The Hobbs Police Department reported a pedestrian crash on Tuesday night. The accident happened at Maryland and Broadway intersection.
39-year-old Gabriel Ortiz Espino reported a collision to Hobbs police, saying he thought he had “hit somebody or something.” Police confirm that a pedestrian was fatally injured and declared dead at the scene.
The name and identity of the victim have not been made public yet.
After speaking with the police, a warrant for Espino’s arrest was issued, with charges of tampering with evidence and a fatal crash involving death or personal injury, both third-degree felonies. After being detained, Espino was lodged in the Hobbs City Jail. He is at the Lea County Detention Facility right now.
