1 Person Killed In A Multi-Vehicle Accident In Pinal County (Pinal County, AZ)

February 19, 2024 – Nationwide Report®

A fatal crash involving an ambulance caused the closure of I-10 for roughly 10 miles outside the Valley early Sunday morning. The Arizona Department of Transportation reported the incident on I-10 eastbound near SR 387, outside Casa Grande, around 6:30 a.m.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety disclosed that the American Medical Response ambulance, traveling east, possibly due to driver fatigue, lost control, swerving before rolling over and landing upright. Though no patients were aboard, the driver and a female co-worker occupied the vehicle.

As two good Samaritans stopped to aid, a fourth vehicle collided with the ambulance, fatally striking one Samaritan. The other Samaritan sustained injuries and was hospitalized. Investigations into the driver’s impairment are ongoing.

The co-worker remains hospitalized in critical condition. DPS noted the ambulance had just dropped off a patient, and the workers were returning to a garage when the multi-vehicle accident occurred.
