On Monday evening, one person suffered injuries following a traffic collision on I-40.
As per the initial information, the two-vehicle accident took place at about 4 p.m. on I-40 near the Fayette County and Shelby County line. The early reports indicated that an 18-wheeler and a commercial vehicle were involved in the wreck. On arrival, emergency crews airlifted one person to Regional One Hospital in Memphis in serious condition.
The traffic was blocked for miles due to the crash. Eastbound traffic in the area was fully closed as crews worked at the scene. The incident was first reported at approximately 3:30 p.m. At about 6 p.m., traffic in the area started moving again. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation is ongoing.
