1 person in critical condition after a bicycle crash in Redwood Village (San Diego, CA)

On Monday, a man suffered life-threatening injuries after his bicycle was rear-ended by a vehicle in Redwood Village.

As per the initial information, the bicycle accident took place at about 5 p.m. in the 5900 block of University Avenue. The preliminary investigation showed that a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old man hit the bicyclist, who had swerved into traffic. The driver was in the left lane trying to pass another vehicle in the right lane when the 51-year-old man exited the bike lane into the westbound right lane for reasons that are yet to be known.

On arrival, emergency personnel rushed the bicyclist to the hospital with major injuries and the victim is not expected to survive. The man remains in critical condition as of Tuesday morning. No additional information has been released.

An investigation is ongoing.
