1 person hospitalized after a vehicle slams into a pole in Sumas (Sumas, WA)

One person suffered injuries after a vehicle crashed into a pole and a tree in Sumas.

Officers actively responded to the area of Reese Hill Road (SR547) at approximately 12:05pm after getting reports of a single-vehicle accident. The early reports showed that a vehicle was northbound on Reese Hill Road when the driver got distracted inside the vehicle while maneuvering on a curve.

After that, the vehicle swerved off the roadway and the driver over corrected, hitting a power pole and then a tree. On arrival, emergency crews transported the driver to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with non-fatal injuries. As of 12:25pm, crews were on the scene and they reported that 1 of the 2 lanes was shut down.

According to the responders, a power pole and lines were down due to the collision.  Puget Sound Energy reported that over 70 of their customers’ addresses lost power in the immediate area after the accident. No other details are available.

The crash remains under investigation.
