According to the California Highway Patrol, a multi-vehicle accident was reported on Thursday in Alameda County.
The officials stated that the crash happened on North Vasco Road near Old Rooney Ranch Road at around 3:40 a.m.
Two vehicles, a Honda Civic and Honda Accord collided head-on, reported CHP Officer Tyler Hann.
The officials confirmed that the driver of the Honda Civic died at the scene.
The driver of the Honda Accord was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley with life-threatening injuries.
The identity of the victims was not released by the CHP.
The officials confirmed that no other casualties were reported in the fatal crash.
The crash is investigated to clarify whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
