1 person dead, several others injured after a multi-vehicle accident in Smith County (Tyler, TX)

On late Wednesday, one person was killed while several others suffered injuries following a traffic collision in Smith County.

As per the initial information, at least five emergency vehicles responded to the crash scene approximately 10 miles east of Tyler, near the Smith/Gregg county line. The early reports showed that three vehicles were involved in the collision. Several victims were taken to area hospitals and one person died as a result of the accident.

Eastbound and westbound lanes of traffic were closed for hours until the roadway was cleared at about 3:30 a.m. The portion of State Highway 31 has reopened to traffic. No other details are immediately available.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
