One person was killed and three others received injuries following a wreck Monday in Surprise.
As per the initial information, the fatal four-vehicle pile-up took place at 11:03 a.m. on Apr. 4 in the southbound lanes of U.S. 60 (Grand Avenue), at 163rd Avenue. The early reports showed that a Penske box truck crashed into a Toyota passenger vehicle, causing injuries to two people inside the vehicle.
The Toyota sedan was pushed into the desert due to the force of the collision. The truck then hit a Nissan Altima sedan, claiming the life of the lone driver. A semi-truck then came along and crashed into the Penske box truck. The driver of the box truck was taken to the hospital.
The extent of injuries sustained by the injured victims remains unknown at this time. Authorities are trying to find out if impairment on behalf of the Penske truck driver played a factor in this crash. Grand Avenue was closed down in both directions in Surprise, but the lanes have since been reopened. No other information is available.
The wreck remains under review.
