1 person dead, another injured after a vehicle slammed into a bus bench in Chinatown (Los Angeles, CA)

One person died and another received injuries after an SUV slammed into a bus bench Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles’ Chinatown neighborhood.

As per the initial information, the fatal traffic accident took place near the intersection of Broadway and Bernard Street just after 4:20 p.m. The second victim struck by the vehicle was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

The vehicle ended up on the sidewalk. The damaged bench was crunched between the vehicle and a fence. The driver was taken into custody as police worked to find out if the person was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. No other details are available.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
