One person was killed while another suffered injuries following a rear-end crash Saturday in Highland Park.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place at around 11:15 p.m. on Davison Freeway. The preliminary investigation revealed that a person driving a Ford Explorer westbound on Davison Freeway failed to maintain control of their vehicle and rear-ended a fire truck that was parked near Oakland Avenue.
Two Highland Park fire trucks were parked and blocking portion of westbound Davison Freeway while assisting two vehicles on the embankment. The driver of the Ford, a 57-year-old, had to be extricated from the vehicle by the rescuers.
The person was declared dead at the scene by the officials. A passenger in the Ford was rushed to the hospital and is listed in serious condition. That stretch of the freeway was shut down as crews worked at the scene. No other further details were provided.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
