1 person dead after being struck by a Metro train in Hawthorne (Hawthorne, CA)

One person was killed after getting struck by a Metro train Tuesday morning in Hawthorne.

As per the initial information, the fatal pedestrian accident happened about a half a mile away from the Hawthorne Metro station at about 4 a.m., which is close to the 4400 block of West 111th Street. It is unknown why the pedestrian was on the train tracks.

Occupants of the train were provided alternate transport by shuttle buses as crews worked at the scene. The identity of the deceased will be released once the next of kin is notified. No additional information is available.

The incident remains under investigation.
