One person died and about 1,000 gallons of fuel were spilled after a fiery crash early Friday morning in Woodland Hills.
As per the initial information, the fatal car accident took place at 1 a.m. at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Canoga Avenue. The early reports showed that an SUV was speeding down Victory Boulevard when it plowed into the tanker truck, which was heading north on Canoga Avenue.
Due to the impact, the SUV veered off the road, crashed into a cement wall and then burst into flames. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene. The tanker truck itself did not catch fire. The driver of the truck remained unharmed in the accident. About 1,000 gallons of fuel spilled onto the roadway.
Hazmat crews secured the scene, and private contractors were brought in to clean up the fuel spill and haul away the truck. The intersection of Victory Boulevard and Canoga Avenue was shut down for several hours during the cleanup. Residents near the crash reported that there was a strong gasoline odor in the area. No other details are available.
