1 person dead after an auto-pedestrian crash in Salinas (Salinas, CA)

On Wednesday, a 67-year-old person was killed after getting struck by a vehicle in Salinas.

The fatal auto-pedestrian collision took place on North Main Street and Chaparral Street at approximately 10 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicated that a 2010 Dodge Charger hit a pedestrian who was crossing in a marked crosswalk. Officials said that the pedestrian had walked 2 lanes and turned around to return the way they came.

According to the authorities, impairment did not play a factor in the collision. The 18-year-old Dodge driver remained at the scene and waited for the officers to arrive. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. No further details were provided.

The incident remains under review.
