On early Thursday morning, one person was killed after being hit by a vehicle in South Los Angeles.
As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place near the intersection of East Florence and South Central avenues. The early reports showed that officers were attempting to stop a stolen vehicle at about 12:30 a.m. in the Florence neighborhood when the driver took off at high rate of speed.
Shortly after, the vehicle hit a pedestrian who was crossing the street near the intersection. The pedestrian, said to be a man in his 50s, suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. According to the responders, the stolen vehicle flipped over as a result of the collision.
The stolen vehicle came to rest after colliding with what appeared to be a nearby parked car. The vehicle’s driver, described only as a woman in her 30s or 40s, was taken to a hospital with non-fatal injuries. Officials will test her for any possible drug or alcohol consumption. She is expected face charges with regard to the stolen vehicle and the pedestrian’s death.
The incident remains under investigation.
