On early Thursday, one person died following a traffic collision in the West Athens area.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle crash took place at around 2:14 a.m. on the westbound 105 Freeway at Vermont Avenue. The early reports showed that a pickup truck and a semi were involved in the accident. One person suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials.
The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. Three lanes and the Vermont off-ramp were shut down for several hours as crews worked at the scene. Traffic was rerouted past the crash scene in the carpool lane. No further details were provided.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
