On Thursday, one person was killed after a truck landed in a canal in Metairie.
As per the initial information, officers actively responded to the intersection of West Esplanade Avenue and Ridgeway Drive shortly before 4 a.m. after getting reports of a single-vehicle crash. The preliminary investigation indicated that moments before 3 a.m., the truck was heading south on Ridgeway when it attempted to turn west onto West Esplanade. The driver failed to negotiate the turn, causing the vehicle to hit a curb and fall into the canal.
The driver was pinned inside the truck. On arrival, responders located an overturned Nissan pickup truck in a canal. The driver was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. Details of the driver’s condition before the crash are unknown. A toxicology report will be completed as part of the autopsy. No additional information has been provided.
