1 person dead after a hit-and-run crash in New Orleans; 20-year-old Shawn Honora arrested (New Orleans, LA)

On early Wednesday, a motorcyclist died following a two-vehicle collision in New Orleans.

As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run crash took place at about 2:45 a.m. on the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Read Boulevard (map). The preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a 2021 Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed when he ran a yellow light at the intersection.

After that, the driver, 20-year-old Shawn Honora, crashed into the motorcycle. The motorcycle rider succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Honora fled the scene on foot and then returned approximately 45 minutes later.

He was taken into custody and faces charges of principle to negligent homicide and hit-and-run driving. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. No other details are made available.

The crash remains under investigation.
