On early Thursday morning, one person died following a fiery, rollover accident on the city’s Northeast Side.
As per the initial information, the fatal single-vehicle crash took place at about 2:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of NE Loop 410, just south of Rittiman Road. The early reports showed that the vehicle was going northbound when it swerved off the roadway and traveled through a center grassy median.
After that, the vehicle went down an embankment and hit a wall at the Rittiman Road exit. The vehicle then flipped over and got engulfed in flames. Officials later confirmed that at least one person in that vehicle had died. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified.
Officers initially reported that the car seemed to fly clear over the guardrail because there was no damage to that barrier. On arrival, responders found the car fully engulfed in flames. Authorities closed parts of Interstate 35 and Loop 410 in that area for several hours as crews worked at the scene, but they have since reopened. No other details are immediately available.
The crash remains under investigation.
