According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal crash was reported on Tuesday night in Bakersfield.
Officials confirmed that one person died due to the accident.
Authorities stated that the pedestrian collision occurred near South Union Avenue and Adams Street.
A vehicle struck a pedestrian in the area.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.
The driver of the vehicle fled on committing the accident, but returned later to the scene and cooperated in the investigation.
Other details pertaining to the collision including the identity of the victim or description of the vehicle involved remain unknown.
The cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
The crash continues to be investigated by the CHP.
