The Tucson Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash on Friday night. The accident happened at E. Benson Highway and Tournament Way intersection at around 9:45 p.m.

A pedestrian was struck by a blue 2004 Dodge Ram driven by Oscar Torres, 34 heading west as he attempted to cross Benson Highway from north to south. The pedestrian passed away at the scene.

Torres had a suspended license at the time of the fatal crash, but he wasn’t intoxicated. He was accused by police of fleeing the scene of a fatal collision.

Investigators discovered drugs in the possession of the pedestrian, who was not in a marked or unmarked crosswalk. According to the police, the pedestrian’s mid-block crossing was the primary contributing factor as determined by the evidence from the roadway and witness interviews.
