The Bakersfield Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash on Friday evening. The accident happened at the 4th and V Streets intersection at around 7 p.m. The collision involved an adult male pedestrian.
According to investigators, the driver struck the man as he was using a wheelchair to cross the street in an unmarked area.
When the officials arrived, they found a pedestrian lying on the road unconscious. He suffered severe injuries and was declared dead at the scene. His identity is not yet known at this time.
The driver of the car is cooperating with the police during the investigation.
According to a statement from the department, neither speeding, drugs, nor alcohol seems to have been a factor in the fatal crash.
