Police say an impaired driver struck the vehicle head-on, killing one person and injuring two others, including an eight-year-old girl in critical condition.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Ames Boulevard and Trinity Drive in Marrero.
Rene Zeigler, 65, of Marrero, died in the crash.
According to Sheriff Joseph Lopinto, Joesph Britton, 31, driving his pickup truck southbound on Ames Blvd., traveled off the center line and collided with Zeigler Sedan.
Zeigler’s granddaughter Riley suffered multiple injuries from the crash. Riley was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Following Britton release from the hospital, deputies arrested him. A vehicular homicide charge, two counts of negligent injury, a driving without a license charge, and a second offense for driving while intoxicated are on his list of charges.
A toxicology sample was obtained for further analysis.
